KARACHI: International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences of Karachi University, Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), and the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), Sindh Health Department, jointly organised a seminar on routine immunisation on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Keith Feldon, WHO’s senior adviser to Sindh’s Emergency Operation Centre for Polio (EOC), said that around 60 per cent deaths of children were caused by vaccine preventable diseases (VPD), and these could be saved worldwide. An estimated 19.5 million infants worldwide are still missing out on basic vaccines, he said, adding that no new cases of polio virus were reported in the ongoing year in Pakistan, while in 2017 eight cases were reported.
