Sir: Recently Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mian Shahbaz Sharif reiterated that Punjab’s provincial government is focusing on ensuring improvement in healthcare through the provision of funds. He did so while talking to doctors, nurses, medical staff and attendants after inaugurating the placement of a modern CT scan machine at the Kasur District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. He did this after visiting the hospital’s various sections and inquiring about the healthcare facilities available to the patients. At the event, the CM guaranteed that improvements in healthcare would improve through the investments of billions of rupees. He said he would personally be supervising the ongoing reforms in healthcare and other sectors throughout Punjab. It is good to note that the latest CT scan machines will be available to the people of Punjab. These machines have already been installed in DHQ Hospitals in Kasur, Vehari, Layyah, Bhakkar and Mianwali and are also in the process of being installed at five other DHQ hospitals including Okara, Khushab, Sheikhupura, Attock and Bahawalpur. It is also commendable that the provincial government has adopted a somewhat unique policy according to which these machines are not the property of the provincial health department. They will be operated by the company which installs them, the patients CT scan will be held on the doctor’s advice and the facility will be available round the clock. All this is in pursuance of the chief minister’s commitment and determination to provide the best possible modern healthcare facilities to the people nearest to their doorsteps round the clock, thereby saving them the inconvenience of having to travel long distances for medical care.
