KARACHI: The fertiliser manufacturers are maintaining complete transparency and accuracy in facilitating the passage of subsidy to the registered farmers. However, some unscrupulous non/ sub dealers might have violated the government policy to take unfair advantage of the subsidy scheme, said the Fertiliser Manufacturers of Pakistan Advisory Council (FMPAC). It said that there were news reports circulated in parts of media that had falsely created an impression that fertiliser manufacturing companies were involved in some malpractices to take ‘unfair advantage’ of the government’s subsidy, being offered to reduce the retail prices of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilisers, for the common farmers. The FMPAC assured consumers and general public that all such allegations were “absolutely false”. It said fertiliser manufacturers were spending millions for printing and pasting of subsidy stickers on DAP bags and were supporting Punjab government for welfare of the farming community. The FMPAC said fertiliser manufacturers are prudent and responsible enterprises, who condemn any such malpractices. This essential and strategic industry is the largest tax-contributor to the national exchequer, while it makes substantial input to the agricultural growth and economic prosperity in the country, and are managed through exemplary corporate governance, said the organisation. It said the fertiliser producers realised that the subsidy on DAP and urea promised great support and financial benefits to the deprived community of farmers in Punjab.
