Iran accuses US of civilian infrastructure attacks

Published on: July 18, 2026 4:35 PM

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations has accused the United States of attacking civilian infrastructure in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Tehran said the strikes caused extensive damage and threatened regional stability. The allegations add to growing diplomatic tensions over the conflict.

According to Iranian UN envoy Amir-Saeid Iravani, the US attacks damaged ports, transportation networks, communications facilities, logistics hubs, radar installations, and coastal defense systems. He said the targeted infrastructure was essential for civilians and the functioning of Iran’s national economy.

In the letter, Iravani stated that the United States bears full international responsibility for deaths, injuries, infrastructure damage, and environmental harm resulting from the attacks. Moreover, he urged the United Nations to address what Iran described as unlawful military actions.

The envoy also warned that the continued attacks threaten international peace and security. According to Iravani, they also endanger freedom of navigation, regional stability, and the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Therefore, any escalation in the area could disrupt global oil supplies and increase regional security concerns. International observers continue to monitor developments closely.

Meanwhile, Iran’s letter represents the latest diplomatic effort to raise its concerns before the United Nations. Additionally, Tehran has continued to accuse Washington of violating international law through military actions targeting its territory and infrastructure.

The United Nations had not publicly responded to the letter at the time of reporting. However, the issue is expected to remain part of ongoing international discussions surrounding regional security and the broader Iran-US dispute.
