Rain-triggered roof collapsed kills 11 in Kohat

Published on: July 14, 2026 10:48 AM

At least 11 people, including women and children, were killed and 12 others injured after the roof of a mud house collapsed during heavy rainfall in Kohat, highlighting the dangers posed by monsoon weather in vulnerable communities.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday in Malagin, a mountainous village on the outskirts of Kohat, where a family gathering was underway when the roof of the earthen house suddenly gave way. Rescue officials said many people were trapped beneath the debris, prompting an emergency response by rescue teams and local residents.

According to Rescue 1122 authorities, the death toll rose to 11 after additional victims were recovered from the rubble. Several of those killed were women and children who had gathered inside the house for the event. Rescue workers used heavy equipment and manual efforts to search through the debris and evacuate survivors.

The 12 injured victims received first aid at the scene before being shifted to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment. Officials said many of the injured are also women and children, while medical teams continue to monitor their condition.

Heavy rainfall also caused damage in other parts of the region. In Attock, five people were injured after a wall collapsed during the downpour. Meanwhile, torrential rain triggered flash flooding in seasonal streams in the tribal areas of Dera Ghazi Khan, raising concerns about further damage in vulnerable districts.

The adverse weather also disrupted electricity supply in several areas of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh, leaving many residents without power as authorities worked to restore essential services.

The latest incidents underscore the growing risks associated with the ongoing monsoon season, particularly for people living in poorly constructed homes and flood-prone areas. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during heavy rains and follow safety advisories to minimise the risk of further casualties and property damage.
