
At least four children were killed and 20 others injured after the roof of a classroom collapsed at a private school in Dera Ghazi Khan. The incident occurred on Thursday around noon, prompting an immediate rescue response from emergency services and local residents. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
According to the district administration’s initial report, the collapse happened during ongoing construction work for a building extension. Heavy materials including sand and bricks had been placed on the roof, which caused structural overload. The roof reportedly could not bear the weight and gave way during school hours.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the site within minutes and carried out a search and rescue operation. Injured students, teachers, and labourers were pulled from the rubble with the help of emergency responders and local volunteers. All injured individuals were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials confirmed that the injured include 16 students, two teachers, and two labourers. District education authorities said they were present at the site during the rescue operation. The Chief Executive Officer of the District Education Authority assured that action would be taken against those responsible for safety lapses.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of the incident and ordered a detailed report. Authorities said a formal inquiry will determine responsibility and assess violations related to construction safety during school operations. The tragedy has raised serious concerns over building safety standards in educational institutions.
