Ukraine has signed a contract with Germany for the delivery of 600 air defense missiles. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the agreement, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s air defense against ongoing Russian attacks. The deal is significant as Ukraine continues to face sustained missile and drone strikes across multiple regions.
According to Zelensky, the agreement involves interceptor missiles used in anti-ballistic defense systems. He said the contract represents a major step in expanding Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. However, he noted that delivery timelines are expected to take considerable time due to production constraints.
Zelensky also said the United States currently produces around 700 interceptor missiles annually. He added that production licenses have been transferred to Germany, which has developed its own manufacturing capacity. This arrangement allows Germany to support Ukraine’s air defense needs more directly.
The announcement comes as Ukraine continues to request increased Western support for air defense systems. Kyiv has repeatedly urged allies to provide more interceptor missiles and advanced protection against aerial attacks. Germany has already emerged as a key supplier of military aid, including Patriot systems and funding support.
The deal was discussed during recent high-level meetings involving Ukraine’s Western partners, including the G7 summit. Officials said allied support remains focused on strengthening Ukraine’s resilience against infrastructure attacks. Further deliveries and defense cooperation are expected to continue as the conflict evolves.
