Pakistan and Iran strengthen partnership for regional peace

Published on: June 23, 2026 7:31 PM

Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting regional stability during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Islamabad. The visit came shortly after Pakistan facilitated dialogue between Tehran and Washington, a diplomatic effort that has received international attention for helping reduce regional tensions.

During talks with President Asif Ali Zardari, President Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s constructive role in encouraging dialogue and peaceful engagement. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including regional security, economic cooperation, connectivity projects and opportunities to further strengthen relations between the neighboring countries.

President Zardari welcomed the Iranian leader’s first state visit to Pakistan following recent regional developments and described it as a reflection of the strong brotherly ties shared by both nations. He also expressed hope that ongoing technical-level negotiations would contribute to lasting peace and stability across the region.

Furthermore, the Pakistani president reiterated Islamabad’s support for Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity. He emphasized Pakistan’s consistent belief in diplomacy and dialogue as effective tools for resolving regional and international challenges while maintaining close relations with countries across the Muslim world.

Meanwhile, President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its support during challenging circumstances and expressed Tehran’s desire to expand cooperation in political, economic, security and regional affairs. Both sides agreed that stronger collaboration could create new opportunities for prosperity and enhance stability throughout the region.

In a separate meeting, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met President Pezeshkian to discuss regional developments and peace initiatives. The Iranian president appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote de-escalation, while both sides reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and stronger Pakistan-Iran relations in pursuit of peace and shared progress.
