Petroleum imports rise by 2.2% to $14.95bn in 11 months

The imports of the overall petroleum group witnessed an increase of 2.23 percent during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year (2025-26) as compared to the corresponding months of the last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

The total imports of the petroleum group during July-May (2025-26) stood at $14,953.227 million against the imports of $14,631.808 million during the same months of last year. Among petroleum commodities, the import of petroleum products increased by 2.86 percent, from $5,456.150 million last year to $5,612.274 million during the period under review year.

Likewise, the imports of Petroleum Crude increased by 27.29 percent from $ 4,981,299 million last year to $6,340,733 million while the import of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) went up by 0.10 per cent in the first eleven months and stood at $ 983.698 million as compared to $ 982.753 million in the corresponding period in 2024-25. On the other hand, the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) decreased by 37.21 percent from $3,211.257 million to $2,016.240 million. The imports of all other petroleum group products went down by 19.19 percent and were recorded at $0.282 million as against $0.349 million.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the petroleum group imports witnessed an increase of 7.84 percent and went up to $ 1,435.930 million during the month of May 2026 as compared to imports of $1,331,592 million in May 2025. On a month-on-month basis, the petroleum imports into the country decreased by 36.78 percent during May 2026, as compared to the imports of $2,271,311 million in April 2025, according to the data.
