Karachi unveils comprehensive traffic plan for Ashura processions

Published on: June 23, 2026 8:18 PM

Karachi Traffic Police has announced a detailed traffic management plan for 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram to ensure smooth movement and maintain security during Ashura processions across the city. Authorities stated that special arrangements have been put in place around key routes where large gatherings and religious events are expected to take place.

According to traffic officials, MA Jinnah Road will remain closed from Guru Mandir to Tower during the three-day period due to security requirements. The main procession will begin from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah, following its traditional route through central parts of the city.

To reduce inconvenience for commuters, alternative routes have been designated for motorists travelling from different areas. Citizens coming from Nazimabad have been advised to use Lasbela Chowk through the Garden area, while those travelling from Liaquatabad should proceed via Teen Hatti and Martin Road.

Furthermore, officials announced that the Liaquatabad-Guru Mandir road will remain closed from 8:30am to 9:30am on the 9th of Muharram. Traffic moving from Hasan Square towards Peoples Chowrangi has been directed to use Kashmir Road, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road as alternate routes.

Similarly, vehicles travelling from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Numaish Chowrangi will be diverted at Society Light Signal towards Kashmir Road. Commuters moving from Central Jail Gate on Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir have also been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jung Road through Soldier Bazar.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will observe 9th and 10th Muharram on June 25 and 26, which have been declared public holidays by the federal government. During Muharram, mourners participate in processions and majalis to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the historic Battle of Karbala.
