Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has said he held multiple discussions with US President Donald Trump on the situation in Lebanon. His remarks come amid renewed debate over regional security and proposals involving Syria’s potential role in Lebanon. The statement is significant as it clarifies Damascus’ position on military involvement.
Speaking in an interview with the Dubai-based Al Mashhad channel, Sharaa rejected any possibility of Syrian military intervention in Lebanon. He emphasized that Syria’s priority is restoring relations with Lebanon through economic cooperation rather than armed action. His comments directly respond to recent international speculation.

Sharaa said he and Trump had discussed Lebanon several times since establishing bilateral contacts. He added that Syria’s approach focuses on political, economic, and social solutions to regional instability. According to him, the aim is to support state institutions and reduce conflict risks.
The Syrian president also addressed Trump’s earlier remarks suggesting a possible Syrian role in countering Hezbollah in Lebanon. Sharaa said those comments had been misinterpreted and did not imply military deployment. He stressed that Syria supports a peaceful and coordinated regional solution.
He further noted that dialogue with various Lebanese political actors, including Hezbollah, could be considered if it serves stability. Sharaa said regional cooperation is essential to address ongoing conflict challenges. He added that Lebanon’s crisis requires joint diplomatic efforts rather than military escalation.
