Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved public holidays on 9 and 10 Muharram, with the Cabinet Division issuing an official notification. The announcement is significant as it prepares the country for Ashura observances and related religious gatherings. Public offices will remain closed across Pakistan during these days.
According to the notification, the holidays will be observed nationwide on 9 and 10 Muharram. During this period, mourning processions and religious gatherings will take place in different cities. Authorities have also planned special security arrangements to ensure public safety.
The Sindh government has also announced holidays for the same occasion, issuing its own notification. The province will observe the holidays on 25 and 26 June. This aligns with nationwide preparations for Ashura commemorations.
Ashura is observed to honor the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala. The occasion holds deep religious significance for Muslims around the world. It is marked by processions, gatherings, and acts of remembrance.
Security agencies across Pakistan are making arrangements to manage crowds and ensure peaceful observance. Additional personnel are being deployed in sensitive areas. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement during religious events.
