Officials have revealed the detailed tax structure included in petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan. According to petroleum division sources, around 29 percent of the retail price of both fuels consists of taxes. The breakdown highlights the significant role of levies and duties in determining fuel costs for consumers.
For petrol, officials said taxes amount to Rs88.07 per litre. This includes Rs19.32 customs duty, Rs66.25 petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 climate support levy. Authorities noted that these components collectively form a substantial portion of the final pump price.
Similarly, diesel prices also include nearly 29 percent in taxes. Sources said the total tax component stands at Rs91.15 per litre. This includes Rs15.68 customs duty, Rs72.97 petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 climate support levy. Officials emphasized that these levies are key contributors to government revenue.
The disclosure comes shortly after the government reduced fuel prices. Petrol was cut by Rs74.28 per litre and diesel by Rs67.31 per litre. The revised prices now stand at Rs299.50 per litre for petrol and Rs311.47 per litre for diesel.
Energy analysts say fuel pricing remains heavily influenced by taxes and global oil market trends. Any further changes in international crude prices or domestic fiscal policy could impact future retail rates for consumers.
