Punjab orders strict Muharram security

Published on: June 20, 2026 11:53 PM

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security for Muharram processions and religious gatherings across Faisalabad Division. She emphasized coordinated planning to maintain law and order during the sensitive religious period. The directive came during a high-level meeting reviewing security and administrative arrangements for Muharram. Officials briefed the meeting on preparedness measures across the region.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, commissioners, police officials, and district administrators. Authorities presented detailed updates on security deployment and route management for processions and gatherings. Bukhari stressed continuous coordination with organizers of religious events to avoid any disruption. She also called for proactive communication between law enforcement and community leaders.

Furthermore, she instructed police to ensure adequate deployment outside mosques and imam bargahs. She ordered arrangements for water stalls along procession routes to help citizens cope with heat. Authorities were also directed to maintain cleanliness and provide cooling measures where needed. Special attention was given to managing crowd flow and emergency response readiness.

In addition, traffic police were instructed to maintain smooth flow through alternative routes during processions. The minister ordered public awareness campaigns through media and social platforms. Officials were asked to keep citizens informed about diversions and timing updates in advance. The administration also reviewed arrangements for other religious events in the region.

The minister said all stakeholders, including religious scholars and administration, remain in close contact to ensure peace. She reiterated that maintaining harmony and security during Muharram is a top priority for the government. Authorities assured full readiness for all upcoming events. The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhanced coordination across departments.
