The federal government has officially recognised the sacrifice of Liaqat Shahid, who reportedly stopped a suicide attacker and saved multiple lives, by approving a posthumous award of Sitara-e-Shujaat on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the President of Pakistan.

According to official statements, President of Pakistan has approved the award on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, acknowledging Liaqat Shahid’s extraordinary bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.
Authorities said Liaqat Shahid, son of Karim Elahi, displayed exceptional courage when he confronted a suspected suicide bomber and prevented what officials believe could have been a major loss of life.

The Sitara-e-Shujaat is the country’s second-highest civilian award for bravery and is awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding courage in dangerous or life-threatening situations.
Officials said Liaqat Shahid’s bravery not only saved innocent lives but also strengthened the national resolve against terrorism.
In recognition of the award, Liaqat Shahid’s family has travelled to Islamabad under official protocol to receive the honour on his behalf.
The delegation includes his mother, son and brother, who will receive the award from the President in a formal ceremony.
Security arrangements have been made for the family’s safe travel, with an elite force escort accompanying them to the capital.
