Court grants interim bail to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s daughter and son-in-law

Warrants against PM Shehbaz’s daughter, son-in-law suspended

A special central court in Lahore on Tuesday granted interim pre-arrest bail to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s daughter Rabia Imran and her husband Imran Yousaf in a money laundering case, providing them temporary relief from arrest.

The couple appeared before the court along with their legal counsel as Judge Ashfaq Ahmed heard their petitions. After reviewing the arguments, the court approved their interim bail requests, subject to the submission of surety bonds. The judge also directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) not to arrest them until May 7.

The case relates to alleged financial irregularities and money laundering allegations connected to the Punjab Saaf Pani Company, a project previously aimed at providing clean drinking water across the province. Legal proceedings in the matter have been ongoing for several years, involving multiple individuals.

Last week, an accountability court had already provided relief to the couple by suspending their perpetual arrest warrants, which had been issued in 2021 and 2022. The court accepted their plea to surrender voluntarily and instructed them to appear before it on May 5 for further proceedings.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had earlier filed a reference against the prime minister and around 20 others in connection with the same case. However, the accountability court later accepted acquittal pleas for Shehbaz Sharif and several co-accused, effectively clearing them of charges in that reference.

Tuesday’s development marks another step in the ongoing legal process involving Rabia Imran and Imran Yousaf. Their interim bail will remain in effect until the next hearing, when the court is expected to further examine the merits of the case.

The proceedings continue to draw attention due to their connection with high-profile political figures and past accountability cases in Pakistan.
