Pakistan intensified its diplomatic efforts to revive mediation for Iran US ceasefire

Pakistan has intensified its diplomatic efforts to revive stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States (US) following an inconclusive first round of talks held in Islamabad, according to senior sources.

Officials said that although both sides publicly maintained their positions, the initial phase of discussions ended without any formal agreement. Despite the lack of progress, Pakistani authorities remain cautiously optimistic about the possibility of renewed engagement in the coming days.

A senior source revealed that Pakistan is maintaining continuous contact with both Washington and Tehran, urging them to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. The primary objective is to reach a workable understanding before the current ceasefire deadline, reportedly set for around 22 April, expires. Authorities warn that failure to achieve progress within this timeframe could increase the risk of renewed escalation in the region.

According to officials, efforts are underway to organize a second round of talks during this critical window. These diplomatic initiatives are being carried out under the direct guidance of the Prime Minister, reflecting the high priority Islamabad has placed on the issue.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir are reportedly leading Pakistan’s mediation efforts. Both figures previously played a key role in bringing the two sides closer to dialogue.

Sources further noted that both leaders have been working continuously to sustain momentum in the peace process, with officials describing their efforts as tireless. Pakistan has already conveyed its willingness to facilitate further talks and is now awaiting responses from both parties.

While challenges remain significant, Islamabad’s active diplomatic engagement underscores its commitment to preventing escalation and promoting regional stability. Officials hope that sustained efforts can eventually lead to a breakthrough before the deadline passes, reducing tensions and supporting long-term peace in the region.
