ABU DHABI – Five Indian nationals were injured after debris fell following the interception of a ballistic missile by air defence systems in the United Arab Emirates, authorities said.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the incident occurred in the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi, where fragments from the intercepted missile landed, causing injuries. The victims were taken for medical treatment, and their condition was not immediately detailed.

The development comes amid escalating regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Since February 28, the UAE has reported repeated missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran, targeting strategic locations across the country.
On Thursday alone, UAE air defence systems intercepted 15 ballistic missiles and 11 drones, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing threat. Officials say hundreds of projectiles have been intercepted since the conflict began, preventing potentially larger-scale damage.
Despite these efforts, casualties have been reported, including foreign nationals. Authorities confirmed that at least eight expatriates, including Pakistani citizens, have lost their lives, while several others from Pakistan have been injured in separate incidents.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said it remains fully prepared to counter any threats and ensure national security, highlighting the effectiveness of its air defence systems in intercepting incoming projectiles.
Investigations into the latest incident are ongoing, with officials expected to release further details as they assess the damage and circumstances surrounding the debris impact.
