Published on: March 19, 2026 8:38 AM

Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan held a meeting with the newly-appointed Chinese Consul General Sun Yan at the Assembly Chamber, here on Wednesday. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen Pakistan-China relations and enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

The speaker congratulated the Consul General on assuming his new responsibilities and extended his best wishes.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the progress of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects and prospects for collaboration in emerging sectors.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said that Pakistan-China friendship was an enduring bond rooted in mutual trust, respect and shared interests, adding that China had always stood by Pakistan in challenging times. He emphasized that exchange of parliamentary delegations would further deepen bilateral ties, noting that China had consistently remained a sincere and reliable partner in Pakistan’s development journey.

He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, new dimensions were being added to Pak-China economic relations, while Punjab, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was progressing steadily on the path of development and prosperity.

Highlighting the importance of CPEC, the Speaker termed it a cornerstone of Pakistan’s sustainable development and a key driver of economic growth for both countries, enhancing Pakistan’s strategic importance at regional and global levels.
