Karachi police arrest suspects in doctor Akash robbery-murder case

Published on: July 15, 2026 12:54 PM

Police have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the robbery and fatal shooting of Dr Akash outside a bank in Karachi’s Clifton area, with investigators claiming the operation was completed within 36 hours of the incident.

Addressing a press conference, DIG South Asad Raza, accompanied by DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider and other police officials, said the suspects were apprehended following an intensive investigation that relied on surveillance footage and intelligence gathering.

According to the police, Dr Akash had arrived at a bank in the Frere area when the suspects, who were already present near the location, targeted him during a robbery attempt. Investigators said one suspect conducted surveillance and alerted his accomplices before the attack was carried out.

DIG South stated that police gathered crucial details of the crime within 24 hours and successfully arrested all three suspects within the following 36 hours. He added that the arrested individuals belong to the Hindu community but stressed that the investigation is based on evidence related to the crime and not on religious identity.

Police reviewed more than 100 CCTV recordings from the surrounding area to trace the suspects’ movements. Investigators said the robbers used one car and two motorcycles during the operation. The three suspects, who arrived on two motorcycles, were later arrested within the jurisdiction of the Defence police station.

Authorities also recovered a portion of the stolen cash during the operation, while efforts are continuing to recover the remaining amount and gather further evidence. Police said additional investigations are underway to determine whether the suspects were involved in other robbery incidents across the city.

The killing of Dr Akash during the robbery sparked widespread concern over Karachi’s law and order situation, prompting calls for stronger security measures around banks and commercial areas. Police officials expressed confidence that the arrests would strengthen the prosecution’s case as the investigation proceeds.
