KARACHI — Residents in several areas of Karachi felt mild earthquake tremors shortly after midnight between Friday and Saturday, causing brief concern among people in the city’s eastern neighbourhoods.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres. The tremor was recorded at approximately 1:27am on March 14.

Officials said the epicentre of the quake was located in the Arabian Sea, about 100 kilometres south of Karachi, in off-coast areas. The relatively moderate magnitude meant the tremors were mild but still noticeable in some residential districts.

Residents in areas including Landhi and Korangi reported feeling the shaking. In Landhi, tremors were particularly felt in Landhi No. 2 and Landhi No. 4 as well as around Babar Market, while people living in Korangi No. 6 also reported the brief tremor.
Several residents said the shaking lasted only a few seconds but was strong enough to wake some people from sleep. Despite the sudden tremor, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
Authorities said the situation remained normal and advised citizens not to panic but to remain aware of safety precautions during seismic activity.
The tremor comes weeks after a stronger earthquake struck parts of Pakistan on February 25. According to the Seismological Centre, that quake measured 5.6 in magnitude and originated in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 114 kilometres.

The February quake was widely felt across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat and Kurram, while residents in Islamabad and Peshawar also reported noticeable shaking.
Authorities said they continue to monitor seismic activity, while advising residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
