
Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, following his official appointment. In his message, Putin praised Khamenei’s responsibilities during a time of heightened regional challenges and said they would require courage and dedication.
“Russia trusts that you will continue your father’s work with dignity and unite the Iranian nation during these difficult tests,” Putin added. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to remain a reliable partner of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Russian president emphasized that Moscow will maintain unwavering support and solidarity with its Iranian friends. He described Russia as a steadfast partner of Iran, committed to cooperation despite regional tensions.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the appointment of the new Supreme Leader is an internal constitutional matter. China also opposed interference by any country in the internal affairs of others, highlighting respect for sovereignty.

Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, became the third Supreme Leader in Iran’s history. He succeeds his father, Ali Khamenei, who led the country for 37 years. His appointment follows the death of Ali Khamenei in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike on February 28 that targeted his residence in Tehran.
