Imran Khan’s sister falls into under-construction drain outside jail

Published on: February 24, 2026 3:19 PM

A sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, Noreen Niazi, fell into an under-construction drain outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after reportedly slipping near the site. The incident occurred when she arrived at the prison for a scheduled family visit. According to initial information, her foot slipped due to uneven ground and ongoing construction work near the jail entrance. The sudden fall caused panic among relatives and supporters present outside the facility.

Eyewitnesses said people nearby immediately rushed to help and attempted to pull her out of the drain. Rescue efforts continued for some time as individuals worked together to ensure her safe recovery. Authorities and security personnel stationed outside the jail also responded to the situation and assisted in managing the crowd. However, officials did not immediately release details about her medical condition or possible injuries.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sisters had reached Adiala Jail earlier in the day to meet him, but authorities had not facilitated the meeting at the time of reporting. Sources indicated that administrative procedures and security clearances were still underway, which delayed the scheduled interaction. As a result, family members remained outside the facility while awaiting further instructions from prison officials. The delay added to the tense atmosphere already created by the accident.

Adiala Jail houses Imran Khan, and family visits require prior approval under strict prison regulations. The incident has raised concerns about safety arrangements outside the prison, particularly in areas where construction work is ongoing. Observers noted that proper barricades and warning signs could help prevent similar accidents in the future. Furthermore, the episode has highlighted the need for improved coordination between prison management and local authorities during high-profile visits.

The situation continues to draw attention as supporters and political workers gather outside the jail premises. Officials are expected to provide further updates regarding Noreen Niazi’s health and the status of the family meeting. If confirmed, enhanced safety measures around the construction area may become a priority in the coming days. Ultimately, the incident underscores the importance of ensuring both public safety and smooth administrative processes during sensitive visits.
