Rain washes out Pakistan New Zealand clash

Published on: February 21, 2026 9:30 PM

Persistent rain forced the abandonment of the Super 8 match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Colombo. The washout denied both teams a crucial win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. As a result, each side received one point, impacting the group standings.

The match was scheduled at Colombo during the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bat first. However, heavy rain delayed the start of play. Despite several inspections, conditions failed to improve throughout the day.

Consequently, not a single ball was bowled in the contest. The umpires eventually called off the match due to unplayable conditions. Tournament officials then awarded one point each to both teams. The shared points may influence semifinal qualification scenarios.

Meanwhile, Pakistan had made one change to their playing XI. Fakhar Zaman replaced Khawaja Nafay for the important fixture. Team management hoped the adjustment would strengthen the batting lineup. However, weather conditions prevented any on-field action.
