Lt Colonel martyred, five militants killed in Bannu clash

Published on: February 21, 2026 8:47 PM

Two soldiers were martyred in a terrorist attack on a security convoy in Bannu on Saturday. The assault occurred during an intelligence-based operation against Indian-sponsored militants, officials said. The incident underscores escalating security challenges and affects ongoing counterterror operations in the region.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations, terrorists targeted the convoy during an operation in Bannu. A vehicle-borne suicide bomber attempted to strike civilians and law enforcement personnel. However, the leading group intercepted the attacker, preventing a major catastrophe in Bannu City. Officials said the timely response saved many innocent lives.

During the operation, security forces located militant hideouts and engaged in intense gunfire. As a result, five militants were eliminated in the exchange. However, in desperation, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military vehicle. Consequently, Lt Colonel Shahzada Gul Faraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah embraced martyrdom.

In its statement, ISPR said militants were operating from Afghan soil. It stated that the Afghan Taliban regime failed to prevent cross-border terrorist activities. Moreover, officials said the attackers violated the sanctity of Ramadan. The military vowed decisive action against perpetrators, regardless of their location.

Furthermore, ISPR reaffirmed commitment to the counterterror campaign under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam. The campaign was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. Security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue nationwide operations. Officials said the sacrifices strengthen Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism.
