Lahore police crack major electricity theft, seize fake meters worth millions

Published on: February 15, 2026 2:45 PM

Lahore police, in coordination with the Assistant Engineer of Gulshan Ravi and the Sub-Divisional Officer, conducted a major operation against electricity theft, uncovering illegal connections valued at over Rs 55 million. The raid took place on a blocked road in the industrial area, targeting unauthorized power siphoning.

Officials from Lahore Electric Supply Company reported that a factory producing shopping bags had installed fake meters to steal electricity. The factory also extended illegal underground cables to supply power to another facility, bypassing official billing systems.

During the operation, LESCO teams confiscated the fake meters and underground cables, while police arrested multiple suspects involved in the scam. Detection bills exceeding 120,000 units were issued, reflecting the massive scale of the electricity theft and financial losses caused.

Authorities emphasized that such illegal power connections not only lead to huge revenue losses but also pose serious safety hazards. Faulty wiring in unauthorized setups increases the risk of fire, endangering workers, surrounding neighborhoods, and the industrial infrastructure.

This operation underscores LESCO’s ongoing commitment to enforcing legal compliance in industrial setups across Lahore. Officials noted that joint police and LESCO efforts will continue to dismantle illegal networks, ensuring that perpetrators face strict accountability under the law.

Police and utility authorities urged industrial units to adhere strictly to electricity regulations. They highlighted that maintaining legal connections safeguards public safety, prevents financial losses, and strengthens trust in Lahore’s electricity distribution system.
