LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated the Digital Traffic E-Challan “One App,” a move aimed at enhancing transparency and enforcement of traffic laws across the province. The app is part of ongoing efforts to modernize traffic management and ensure road safety under recent reforms.

The new system enables authorities to store video recordings of traffic violations securely and make them verifiable instantly. It also allows real-time verification of identity cards, driving licences, vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits. Authorities can check for stolen vehicles on the spot and take immediate action against encroachments or environmental violations.
The app integrates several features to strengthen law enforcement and accountability, including checking e-challans, FIR status, and criminal records. Officials say this comprehensive system will streamline traffic management and improve compliance with laws.
Last year, Punjab introduced the first major traffic reforms in six decades. During a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, 20 amendments to the Traffic Act were approved to make travel safer and more convenient. The reforms included measures to auction vehicles with repeated traffic violations and impose strict penalties on government vehicles breaking traffic rules.
Other steps under the reforms include a 30-day grace period to address wrong-way driving, redesigning U-turns for better organization, and ensuring prompt compensation (diyat) for families of road accident victims. Officials believe these measures, combined with digital enforcement through the “One App,” will reduce accidents, improve compliance, and modernize road safety practices throughout Punjab.
