
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised overseas Pakistanis after the country received a record $41.6 billion in remittances during FY2025-26. He said the 8.6 percent increase reflects the confidence of expatriate Pakistanis in the government’s economic policies. The record inflows are expected to strengthen Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves and support economic stability.
In a statement, the prime minister described overseas Pakistanis as a valuable national asset. He said the entire nation is proud of their continued contribution to the country’s economy. Shehbaz Sharif also assured expatriates that their welfare remains a top priority for the government.

Meanwhile, Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad described the inflows as the highest annual remittances in Pakistan’s history. He said June alone contributed at least $3.5 billion to the annual total. According to him, the milestone reinforces Pakistan’s external sector resilience and improves the country’s foreign exchange position.

Schehzad said remittance inflows have maintained steady growth over the past four fiscal years. He noted that remittances increased by 11 percent in FY2024, 26 percent in FY2025, and 9 percent in FY2026. Pakistan received $38.3 billion in FY2025, compared with $30.3 billion in FY2024 and $27.3 billion in FY2023.

Economists believe strong remittance inflows will continue supporting Pakistan’s balance of payments and macroeconomic recovery. Higher foreign exchange earnings can also help stabilize the rupee and ease external financing pressures. Officials expect continued engagement with overseas Pakistanis to further strengthen the country’s economic outlook.
