Cold wave returns as rain, snowfall sweep Pakistan

Published on: February 8, 2026 1:20 PM

A fresh cold wave is set to grip Pakistan as rain and snowfall are expected across several regions from today until February 10, according to weather officials. The changing conditions are likely to bring relief from dry weather but may also disrupt daily routines. Moreover, authorities have advised residents to prepare for colder temperatures and wet conditions. The forecast covers multiple provinces and mountainous regions nationwide.

In Punjab, rain is expected in several districts from February 9 to 10, while Murree and nearby hilly areas may receive snowfall. Islamabad and Rawalpindi could also see showers during this period, with partly cloudy weather in Lahore. Additionally, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms may affect southern districts. These conditions could briefly lower temperatures and reduce visibility in some areas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to experience rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in many districts, including Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, and Peshawar. Snowfall is expected in upper regions, while isolated hailstorms may occur. Consequently, residents have been urged to remain cautious during travel. Weather conditions may intensify on February 9 and 10.

Balochistan will also see widespread rain and snowfall in northern and western districts, including Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, and Kalat. Southern areas such as Gwadar, Kech, and Panjgur may receive rain as well. Meanwhile, cooler winds could further drop temperatures across the province. These conditions may impact road travel in mountainous zones.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to receive rain along with snowfall in upper regions during the forecast period. Areas such as Skardu, Hunza, Astore, and Neelum Valley may face harsh weather conditions. Authorities warned that slippery roads could disrupt traffic flow in these regions. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully and avoid unnecessary travel.

Sindh will remain mostly cloudy, with light rain and gusty winds likely in coastal areas over the next two days. While no severe weather is expected, changing conditions may still affect marine activities. Overall, officials have urged the public to stay updated on weather advisories. Precautionary measures can help reduce risks during the cold spell.
