TikTok services in the United States have fully returned to normal after a significant outage disrupted the platform for thousands of users. The downtime affected millions of Americans, preventing content posting, discovery, and real-time updates like likes and view counts.
The social media giant attributed the disruption to a fierce snowstorm that hit most of the US, causing power outages at an Oracle-operated data center. This outage affected tens of thousands of servers that support TikTok’s core functions, leading to widespread user complaints.
Last week’s disruptions coincided with TikTok’s recent ownership change, where a US investor-led consortium acquired an 80% controlling stake. ByteDance retains the remaining 20%, and the transition generated renewed interest, with the app being downloaded 41,000 times shortly after the deal closed.

Users reported slower load times, glitches in search functions, and posts showing zero views until the platform was fully restored. TikTok had assured creators it was actively working on resolving the issues and restoring normal services as quickly as possible.
Analysts noted that the outage highlighted the platform’s dependence on key data centers and the impact of unforeseen natural events on major digital infrastructure. Despite the temporary disruption, user engagement quickly returned as the system stabilized.
Moving forward, TikTok said it will continue monitoring its servers closely and improving resilience to prevent future outages. The company’s swift response and communication reassured both creators and users, reinforcing confidence in the platform’s stability in the United States.
