Four killed in separate traffic accidents in Karachi

Published on: January 30, 2026 2:00 PM

KARACHI: Rash and negligent driving claimed the lives of four people in two separate traffic accidents in Karachi early on Friday, police said.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza, the first accident occurred at 1:05am at the Native Jetty Bridge, where a couple and their child were traveling on a motorcycle. A trailer struck them, leaving them critically injured. They were rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors pronounced all three dead. The victims’ identities could not be immediately confirmed. The trailer driver fled the scene, police said.

In the second incident, a man riding a motorcycle in Baldia Town was hit by a loaded dump truck at Baldia-4. He sustained fatal injuries and died at Civil Hospital Karachi. Police arrested the driver and impounded the truck, DIG Raza added.

Traffic accidents have remained a major cause of fatalities in the city, with 803 people losing their lives in 2025, according to Karachi traffic police. Officials, however, noted an improvement in the latter half of the year.

In December, the Sindh government temporarily banned the daytime movement of heavy vehicles, including dumpers and water tankers, after a spike in deadly collisions. Despite these measures, several fatal incidents have continued to occur. Earlier this month, two seven-year-old boys were killed in separate accidents involving a truck and a water tanker in Korangi’s Mehran Town and Manghopir areas, respectively. Additional deaths were reported near Mowach Goth and Valika due to trailer collisions.

Authorities continue to urge drivers to follow traffic regulations and exercise caution, particularly when operating heavy vehicles, to prevent further loss of life in Karachi.
