Published on: January 24, 2026 5:47 AM

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Friday deployed heavy contingent and police vehicles on the expressway due to heavy snowfall in Murree to avert any untoward incidents.

According to NHMP spokesman, the DIG North and SP IMDC were personally supervising the operational duties and relief operations at the spot. Officers of NHMP were present at various places on A-75 N to provide timely assistance and guidance to the commuters.

Snow removal machinery was also busy in their work while citizens urged to avoid unnecessary travel towards Murree keeping in view of the weather conditions.

Rescue 1122 issues weather advisory for GB

Rescue 1122 and the district administration have issued a weather safety advisory due to severe cold and heavy snowfall in different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities said the weather conditions remain harsh. People are advised to stay alert and follow safety measures to avoid any loss of life or property.

Citizens are requested to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must travel should be extra careful on the roads.

Drivers have been advised to reduce speed during snowfall. Sudden braking and sharp turns should be avoided. Vehicles must be checked before travel, including heaters, brakes, wipers, and antifreeze systems.

Tourists have been urged to check weather forecast before traveling. They should carry snow chains while traveling to snow covered areas.

Rescue 1122 has directed transporters to avoid overloading. Passengers should carry warm clothes and a first aid box.

The advisory also focuses on heating safety. Hotel and guest house owners have been asked to ensure gas heaters are switched off while guests are asleep. At homes, heating appliances should be used carefully. Gas cylinders must be kept outside living rooms. Flammable items should be kept away from heaters.

People have also been warned against overloading electrical sockets. Regular inspection of wiring is advised to prevent short circuits and fire incidents.

Rescue 1122 has appealed to the public to contact emergency services immediately in case of any untoward situation.
