Apple is reportedly working on a new AI wearable device, reminiscent of last year’s Humane AI pin, that users can attach to their clothing. The device, expected to debut in 2027, is described as a “thin, flat, circular disc” with an aluminium-and-glass shell, roughly the size of an AirTag but slightly thicker. Sources indicate it will feature two cameras—one standard lens and one wide-angle lens—three microphones, a speaker, a physical button, and a Fitbit-like charging strip on the back.

The information about Apple’s upcoming AI gadget was highlighted by OpenAI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane during a Davos event, stating that Apple plans to launch its first AI hardware device in the second half of 2026. Some speculation also suggests the device could take the form of AI-enabled earbuds.

Apple’s AI wearable is designed to compete in the growing market of AI-driven personal devices, intensifying competition as other tech giants, including OpenAI, prepare to release their own AI gadgets. The company reportedly plans an initial production run of 20 million units, reflecting high expectations for consumer demand.
The device is reminiscent of the Humane AI pin launched last year by two former Apple employees. That product, despite its innovative approach to wearable AI, struggled to gain traction in the market and was eventually discontinued. Apple’s approach, however, is expected to leverage its hardware expertise, ecosystem integration, and brand recognition to potentially succeed where previous attempts faltered.

Analysts suggest that Apple’s AI wearable could complement other AI initiatives, including the upcoming AI-enhanced Siri in iOS 17, forming a broader ecosystem of intelligent devices designed for seamless interaction with users. While details remain limited, industry observers are closely watching Apple’s entry into AI wearables as it could set a new benchmark in the personal AI gadget market.
