Published on: January 13, 2026 10:19 AM

Automobile sales in Pakistan surged by 46 per cent during the first half of the current fiscal year (FY26), reaching 88,322 units compared to 60,675 units in the same period of FY25, despite a slowdown in December, industry data showed.

December sales of cars, light commercial vehicles (LCVs), pickups, and vans stood at 13,280 units, marking a 35 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase but a 14 per cent month-on-month (MoM) decline. Analysts attributed the yearly growth to new market entrants, lower interest rates, easing inflation, and improving macroeconomic conditions, while the month-end dip was linked to buyers delaying purchases for new-year registrations.

Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HACL) posted a 75 per cent YoY rise in December sales but fell MoM to 1,943 units. Sales of Honda City and Civic models jumped 79 per cent YoY to 1,739 units, while BR-V and HR-V combined sales rose 46 per cent YoY. During July–December FY26, HACL sold 12,039 units, up 70 per cent from the previous year.

Indus Motor Company (IMC) recorded 40 per cent YoY growth, with Corolla, Yaris, and Cross models up 83 per cent YoY, though MoM sales fell 35 per cent. Hyundai Nishat Motors (HNM) saw an 11 per cent YoY rise in December, supported by strong Sonata and Elantra sales, while Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SEWL) posted 5 per cent MoM growth.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) recorded 9 per cent YoY growth, driven by a near twelvefold increase in Every model sales and a 51 per cent rise in Swift units. Total IHFY26 auto sales showed robust performance, with two- and three-wheeler sales up 36 per cent YoY, truck and bus sales up 96 per cent YoY, while tractor sales declined sharply by 26 per cent YoY.

Auto sector expert Mashood Ali Khan said proactive government policies and market stability helped overcome challenges posed by policy uncertainty and used-car imports, supporting strong growth in domestic automobile sales.
