Bugti unveils online hiring drive to promote merit in Balochistan

Published on: January 13, 2026 10:02 AM

QUETTA — Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Monday announced that the provincial government will conduct online recruitment for more than a hundred vacant positions in the finance department in a bid to curb corruption, promote transparency and strengthen merit-based hiring.

In a social media post, the chief minister said the initiative would cover 111 posts and would mark a major shift towards paperless and technology-driven recruitment processes. He described the move as a step toward fulfilling commitments to end nepotism and curb bureaucratic interference in government appointments.

According to CM Bugti, the system will involve an online screening test designed to assess candidates’ qualifications and aptitude in a transparent manner. He added that successful candidates would receive appointment letters within an hour of the test’s completion to ensure timely and merit-based onboarding.

The chief minister said the digital hiring model was unprecedented for the province and formed part of a broader governance reform agenda being rolled out by the administration. He noted that technology-based reforms were essential for modernising recruitment and reducing opportunities for malpractice in government departments.

Officials familiar with the matter said the government intends to expand the online recruitment model to other departments in phases, with the expectation of further improving efficiency and limiting human discretion in hiring. The move follows repeated calls from civil society groups and political stakeholders for greater transparency in government jobs amid allegations of favoritism and reliance on informal networks.

Observers say the transition could reduce bureaucratic delays, enhance accountability and widen access to employment opportunities for qualified youth across Balochistan, including those in far-flung districts who often face obstacles in participating in conventional recruitment processes.
