“At around 7:15am, I heard a blast. I rushed to the house and saw everything destroyed. I have lost my newlywed son, his wife, my wife, and my other daughter-in-law. My daughter is seriously injured,” he said. Guests, many of whom had stayed awake until the early hours, were sleeping at the time of the explosion.
Sohail Romi, a relative present at the scene, said the baraat had arrived from Gujrat the previous night, with the walima scheduled for Sunday noon. “It appears the gas was left open during the night, and when a matchstick was lit in the morning, it caused the gas to ignite, resulting in the explosion,” he added.

Neighboring residents were also affected. William Pervez said Yaqoob Masih, a nearby resident, lost his two sons when the roof of their house collapsed due to the blast. Families and authorities organized burials at the Christian graveyard in Sector H-8, with six victims laid to rest on Sunday and the remaining two scheduled for Monday.
Forensic teams inspected the debris with metal detectors, while authorities launched an investigation into the incident. The tragedy underscores the dangers of unattended gas cylinders and the importance of public awareness regarding safety precautions.
