Published on: January 12, 2026 12:31 PM

QUETTA: A woman lost her life on Sunday in a gas explosion that occurred in the Killi Umar area on the outskirts of Quetta. According to police, the blast took place inside a house due to accumulated gas. The woman suffered severe burn injuries and was taken to the burn unit of Civil Hospital Quetta, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased was identified as the niece of Nazar Barech, president of the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation, Balochistan. Authorities noted that gas leak incidents have been increasing in Quetta over the past few days, with at least half a dozen cases reported, resulting in injuries to around 15 people, including women and children, and causing significant damage to multiple homes.

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) issued safety guidance for residents, advising them to switch off gas appliances before sleeping and ensure that supply valves are closed when the gas supply is suspended at midnight.

In separate incidents on Saturday, police recovered two unidentified bodies from different areas of the city. Bijli Road police found a man’s body within their jurisdiction, while another body was discovered near Sariab Phatak. Both were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta for post-mortem examinations. Authorities said the identities of the deceased could not be immediately confirmed, and investigations into both deaths are ongoing.

Police have urged residents to remain cautious amid recurring gas-related accidents and to report any suspicious circumstances or unattended gas leaks.
