
Ukraine is working urgently to restore electricity in its southeastern regions after overnight Russian strikes caused near-total blackouts, forcing hospitals, water systems, and other critical services to rely on emergency reserves.
Officials in Ukraine said the attacks hit key energy infrastructure, part of a broader escalation as Russia continues targeting the power network during ongoing battlefield pressure.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba confirmed that repair crews are still working to restore heat and water supplies for more than one million consumers in the industrial Dnipropetrovsk region.
Meanwhile, the energy ministry reported that nearly 800,000 consumers in Dnipropetrovsk remained without electricity, although power was fully restored in the neighboring Zaporizhzhia region.

Zaporizhzhia governor Ivan Fedorov described the blackout as unprecedented in recent years, but said authorities responded quickly to stabilize the situation and protect essential services.
Adding to the strain, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko warned that an incoming cold snap could worsen power and heating disruptions, as harsh weather already affects several regions.
