Pakistan rejects remarks made by Indian external affairs minister

Published on: January 3, 2026 4:14 PM

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Saturday strongly rejected remarks made by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, calling them “irresponsible assertions.” The statement accused India of attempting to divert attention from its own record as a neighbour that promotes terrorism and undermines regional stability.

The FO’s statement did not directly quote Jaishankar but came after Indian media reported his comments about India’s right to defend itself against terrorism, while referring to “bad neighbours.” Officials in Islamabad stressed that India’s actions in the region, particularly in Pakistan, are widely documented and continue to cause instability.

The FO highlighted the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav as a notable example of state-sponsored terrorism directed against Pakistan. It further cited extraterritorial killings, sabotage through proxies, and covert support to terrorist networks as part of a pattern consistent with extremist ideology.

Addressing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the FO reiterated that India’s military occupation of the region is illegal and violent. Pakistan affirmed its commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people politically, morally, and diplomatically in their pursuit of self-determination, in line with UN Security Council resolutions.

The statement also raised concerns over the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Islamabad warned that any unilateral breach by India could threaten regional stability and questioned India’s credibility as a nation that respects international law. The FO emphasized that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to protect its rights under the treaty.

In closing, the Foreign Office reaffirmed that India’s repeated attempts to deflect attention from its alleged support for terrorism would not change Pakistan’s stance. The statement underscored Pakistan’s position on peace, stability, and adherence to international agreements while holding India accountable for actions the country describes as harmful to the region
