Midway through her set, Mel C paid tribute to the iconic pop group that made her a global star. Addressing the crowd, she joked that it would have been “very rude” to travel all the way to Australia without singing a Spice Girls song.
Sporty Spice then launched into a nine-minute medley of some of the group’s most beloved hits. The performance included 2 Become 1, You’ll Be There, Spice Up Your Life, and Who Do You Think You Are?, all backed by a full live band.
The unexpected tribute sent the energy soaring, with fans singing along and dancing as the celebration reached its peak. Many in attendance described the moment as a highlight of the New Year’s Eve concert.
The Spice Girls—Posh, Scary, Sporty, Baby, and Ginger—were formed in 1994 and became a global sensation in 1996 with their debut single Wannabe. Their success helped define pop music of the late 1990s.
Although the group went on hiatus in 2000, they reunited for a world tour in 2007 and again in 2018–2019, though Victoria Beckham did not participate in the latter tour. Their last full-group performance was at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
