Karachi has seen a sharp rise in deadly road accidents involving trailers, dumpers and buses in recent months, despite repeated claims of enforcement measures by traffic authorities. Residents and rights activists have long complained about reckless driving, poor regulation of heavy vehicles and weak implementation of traffic laws.
In November, another fatal incident occurred on the Super Highway within the limits of Malir Cantt police station, where a dumper ran over a motorcycle. A 45-year-old man was killed instantly, while a 70-year-old passenger sustained injuries and was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police arrested the dumper driver in that case and impounded the vehicle.
According to rescue officials, heavy vehicles have claimed at least 219 lives across Karachi in the past 308 days alone. The victims include women, children and elderly citizens, highlighting the disproportionate danger posed by large commercial vehicles on the city’s roads.

Traffic experts warn that worsening congestion, unchecked movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours and lack of accountability continue to make Karachi’s roads extremely hazardous. They stress that without strict enforcement, designated routes and improved driver training, such tragedies will continue to occur.
