The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved Rs52 million for the renovation and beautification of Tanda Dam in Kohat, with plans to develop it into a modern recreational and tourist spot. The project aims to make the site more accessible and attractive for the public.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan said the tendering process had already been completed. He added that physical work on the project would begin shortly under previously sanctioned funds.
Once completed, Tanda Dam, also known as Lakeview Park, is expected to boost Kohat’s profile as a tourism destination in the province. Officials believe the development will help attract visitors from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighbouring regions.
The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents during both the construction and operational phases. Authorities say it will contribute to the broader socioeconomic uplift of the area.
Tanda Dam’s renovation has been long awaited, as the project was announced twice during the tenures of former chief ministers Pervez Khattak and Mahmood Khan. Despite its significance, the plan could not materialise in the past.
Local residents have welcomed the latest approval, expressing hope that the project will finally be completed. Many believe the upgraded facility will provide families with a safe and scenic recreational space.
Officials say the beautification plan includes improved landscaping, public amenities and facilities aimed at encouraging tourism. The initiative aligns with the provincial government’s focus on promoting leisure and eco-friendly tourism.
