The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is likely to meet on January 12 to consider the confirmation of three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Sources say the meeting will review service records and recommendations already submitted to the commission.
The judges under consideration include Justice Mohammad Azam Khan, Justice Mohammad Asif and Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas. The IHC administration has forwarded their records along with recommendations from Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfraz Dogar, who will attend the meeting as a JCP member.

Justice Azam Khan and Justice Minhas were appointed as additional judges to the IHC, while Justice Asif was earlier serving in the Balochistan High Court. He was transferred to Islamabad through a presidential order that also brought Justice Dogar to the IHC as chief justice.
These judicial transfers and the subsequent elevation of Justice Dogar triggered internal discord within the IHC. During this period, several judges appeared as litigants before the Supreme Court, while two judges attended proceedings before the Sindh High Court as private petitioners in a related case.
Despite these developments, official data shows that the IHC maintained a high disposal rate in 2025. The court decided at least 16,000 cases during the year, reflecting sustained judicial activity.
Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas recorded the highest number of disposals, deciding over 2,000 cases in single benches and more than 500 in division benches. Justice Mohammad Azam Khan disposed of more than 1,800 cases in single benches and around 600 in division benches, while Justice Mohammad Asif decided over 1,300 cases.
It is noteworthy that Justice Asif is also facing a complaint before the Supreme Judicial Council. The complaint alleges misuse of authority in a hit-and-run case involving his son, an issue that may draw attention during deliberations.

In January, the JCP is also expected to hold further meetings to confirm additional judges appointed to the Lahore High Court and the Balochistan High Court. These sessions will follow the commission’s expanded composition under the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
