KARACHI: More than 2,800 students were conferred degrees at the 15th convocation of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), held on Wednesday at the varsity’s Ojha campus cricket ground. Graduates from medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, and allied health sciences disciplines took part in the ceremony.
The graduating cohort included 330 students from Dow Medical College and 145 from Dow International Medical College. Other degree recipients comprised 94 students from Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Institute of Oral Health Sciences, 49 from Dow International Dental College, 52 from Dow Dental College, and 149 from Dow College of Pharmacy.

Students from emerging and allied disciplines were also awarded degrees during the convocation. These included graduates from biotechnology, optometry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiological technology, nursing, dental care professionals, public health, health professions education, business administration, and postgraduate research programmes.
According to university officials, a total of 66 gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded on the basis of academic performance. Female students dominated the honours list, securing 21 medals in each category, while male students received one medal in gold, silver, and bronze respectively.
All 13 Best Graduate Awards were won by female students, reflecting their strong academic performance across disciplines. The Best Graduate Award of Dow Medical College, named after late Prof Muhammad Shafee Qureshi, was presented to Tanveer Fatima.
M. Hamza Siddiqui of the Dow Institute of Medical Technology received the only gold medal awarded to a male student. Addressing the graduates, DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Nazli Hussain congratulated the students and urged them to continue striving for excellence through dedication and lifelong learning.

She emphasized the importance of ethical values and respect for human life in professional practice. Highlighting institutional milestones, Prof Hussain noted that Dow Medical College had completed 80 years of academic service and continued to enjoy national and international recognition in medical education.
