
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally launched a technology-led shrimp farming industry, marking a major step toward strengthening the province’s blue economy through modern aquaculture and research-based practices.
In a message shared on social media, the chief minister said Punjab has initiated shrimp breeding by combining historical knowledge, advanced technology, aquaculture systems, and a complete value chain for sustainable growth.

She revealed that after a successful trial and research project conducted on 100 acres, the shrimp farming initiative has now officially entered its commercial phase across selected areas.
Moreover, Maryam Nawaz explained that the project is backed by scientific research and includes hatcheries, aqua malls, processing units, cold storage facilities, and an integrated transportation network to support exports.

She added that by March 2026, shrimp estates covering 5,300 acres will be developed in Muzaffargarh and Sargodha, using global research expertise and state-of-the-art aquaculture technologies.
Highlighting international cooperation, the chief minister said experts from several countries have supported the project, while feasibility studies for an additional 26,000 acres are underway for farmer-focused expansion.
