
BRUSSELS – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iraqi counterpart General Abdul Amir al-Shammari in Brussels on Thursday. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, security cooperation, and facilitating pilgrims.
Both ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation between their Ministries of Interior on a sustainable and effective basis. They emphasized long-term collaboration in security and administrative matters.
The Iraqi minister praised Pakistan’s recent efforts to organize pilgrim groups effectively. He noted this was the first time under current leadership that such measures were implemented.
He assured that all pilgrims listed by Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior would be allowed entry into Iraq. However, he clarified pilgrims could not overstay the designated timeframe.

Minister Mohsin Naqvi stressed that both countries’ authorities would maintain close contact to ensure effective facilitation and monitoring of pilgrims. Safety and convenience remain a priority.
The two sides also discussed strengthening mechanisms for counter-terrorism, combating human trafficking, and improving information sharing. They highlighted the need for joint operational measures.
Officials concluded that enhanced cooperation will benefit both nations, ensuring Pakistani pilgrims’ dignity, security, and smooth travel, while reinforcing broader security collaboration between Pakistan and Iraq.
