Three New Monkeypox Cases Reported at Lahore’s Meo Hospital

Published on: December 11, 2025 1:38 PM

 Monkeypox Cases Reported

Lahore’s Meo Hospital reported two confirmed monkeypox cases and one suspected case on Thursday. Hospital officials said all three patients showed clear symptoms of the viral disease. They were immediately shifted to the isolation ward for monitoring.

Sources confirmed that two male patients, Safdar and Abu Sufyan, tested positive for monkeypox. Meanwhile, a woman who arrived for a routine checkup also displayed symptoms. Doctors conducted further tests to confirm her diagnosis. Her condition is being closely observed.

This marks the fourth monkeypox case reported at Meo Hospital in the past three weeks. Health authorities noted a gradual rise in cases. They urged hospitals to stay alert and maintain proper isolation facilities. The National Institute of Health recently confirmed 15 cases reported nationwide since August 2024.

Monkeypox is caused by the Mpox virus. Experts believe African rodents and some primates may carry the virus. These animals can transmit the infection to humans. Human-to-human transmission can also occur through close contact.

Symptoms usually start with fever and body aches. A rash typically appears within three days. It begins on the face and spreads across the body. The rash progresses through stages, turning into scabs before healing. Doctors say early detection helps prevent complications.

Other symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, headaches, and fatigue. The incubation period usually ranges from seven to fourteen days. However, it may extend up to 21 days. Most infections last two to four weeks, with recovery depending on timely care.

Health officials urged the public to take precautions. They advised avoiding close contact with infected individuals. They also stressed reporting symptoms quickly. Meo Hospital continues to monitor the situation as testing and treatment remain underway.
