Sharif family gets clean chit to contest polls | Pakistan Today

LAHORE: The Sharif family held an important meeting at their Jati Umra residence on Sunday to discuss emerging political developments and potential administrative changes in Punjab. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif participated in the two-hour discussion.

Sources said the meeting focused primarily on the future of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the strategy it might adopt in the coming days. The leadership also assessed how both the federal and Punjab governments should respond to expected moves by the party.

The conversation reportedly included a detailed review of Imran Khan’s continued influence within PTI. Participants evaluated whether the party would maintain its reliance on the incarcerated former prime minister or choose to distance itself amid what is being described as the establishment’s strongest reaction yet against him.

According to insiders, the Sharifs also discussed the establishment’s view on several political and economic decisions being taken by the PML-N governments. They reviewed feedback on governance issues and examined how these perceptions may shape future policy choices.

Maryam Nawaz briefed her father and uncle on a recently completed performance audit of the Punjab cabinet. She highlighted major shortcomings identified in the review and outlined areas where improvement was urgently needed.

Sources said the chief minister expressed her intention to reshuffle the provincial cabinet in the coming weeks. She also proposed bringing in new ministers to strengthen administrative efficiency and bolster the government’s overall performance.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to closely monitor ongoing political shifts and maintain coordination between the federal and provincial leadership. Officials familiar with the development said further consultations are expected as the political environment remains fluid.
