RAWALPINDI – The twin city of Pakistan’s federal capital has officially activated the e-challan system for traffic violations starting today. The automated system, part of the Safe City Project, will now issue fines for traffic offenses through CCTV cameras installed across the city.
Under the new system, images of violations will be captured and sent to the vehicle owner along with a coded e-challan. Violators must pay the fines within the stipulated time. The system covers offenses such as jumping traffic signals, riding motorcycles without helmets, lane violations, mobile phone use while driving, and non-standard or illegal number plates.

The e-challaning system is linked to the Safe City Command and Control Center, which monitors traffic violations in real time. More than 2,000 cameras have been installed at 359 locations in Rawalpindi, along with 15 cameras at major entry and exit points, ensuring wide coverage across the city.
Officials highlighted that the system not only streamlines traffic management but also aids the police in monitoring public spaces, improving response times to incidents, and enhancing overall safety. The cameras will also help assess traffic police performance and oversee major roads effectively.
