ISLAMABAD: Work on the Rs1.3 billion Shaheen Chowk underpass is progressing at full pace, with around 50 per cent of the project completed, officials said. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for the 1.3-kilometre underpass on October 24, with a six-month completion timeline.

During a site visit, Chairman Capital Development Authority Mohammad Ali Randhawa and Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza were briefed on the ongoing activities. Officials reported that 80 per cent of the barrel wall work and 100 per cent of the barrel girder work have been completed, while construction for Ramp Two walls has begun.
The CDA chairman directed officials to maintain high-quality standards and incorporate aesthetic elements, including landscaping, digital boards, and LED lighting. He emphasized that the underpass would provide signal-free travel, easing congestion for daily commuters and students in adjoining areas.

Sources also noted that the T-Chowk flyover project, managed by the same contractors, is nearing completion with 70 per cent of work done. The flyover will connect directly to the Islamabad Expressway, further improving traffic flow. Officials expect both projects to be completed by late December, possibly by December 25.
